Strategic approach and partnership in research Introduction of principles of knowledge-based society through an active and scientific food chain research network. Humanity had empirically discovered and handled food safety through thousands of years. Food production and consumption was mainly locally organised, only some products were involved in international trade. By the beginning of the 3rd millennium, growth of the international food trade, occurrence of new technologies and new pathogens, furthermore rapid changes in the sociological factors of food consumption created new challenges to humanity, accordingly an effective solution can only be achieved by the use of consistent tools of science. In the interest of these goals the establishment of an effective control system is exceptionally important for the screening of known and unknown hazards, in which also laboratories play a key role.
